Ballet Classes at eba

September 28, 2008

Classes started at eba last week! I forgot how much energy it takes to teach three classes in a row, but I enjoyed every minute ofit. I was excited to see everyone – there were students who haven’t been there in quite a while. Besides that, there were lots of new students.

You’d think that after doing all those classes on Tuesday, that I would just collapse the next day. However, I decided to take the Ballet Workout class on Wednesday night. It was different than the Balletone class that I offer, but it was a challenging class. We did some stretches that I’ve never done before and it also gave me some ideas for my classes. There weren’t many people there, so they may not continue the class.

New Teaching Certification

September 21, 2008

I am now certified by the National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA)to teach group fitness classes! The main reason I took this training was to keep current on important topics like injury prevention and stretching. In addition, this certification makes it possible for me to teach Balletone at fitness clubs.  So – keep on the look out for more Balletone class offerings!

Online Newsletter with Great Dance Technique Tips

September 14, 2008

I’ve registered for a weekly online newsletter that provides great dance technique tips. It’s posted by Deborah Vogel. I have several of her dvds and books and also took a workshop with her last year.  This week’s newsletter covers the topic of arabesques and how to keep your hips square.

Here’s the link to the post http://www.teachingsmart.blogspot.com/

It’s definitely worth subscribing to the newsletter.

NYC Bus Trip Coming Up

September 8, 2008

The Capital District Dance Alliance is sponsoring a bus trip to New York City on Sunday, November 2, 2008.  The proceeds from this trip are used for dance scholarships for local dance students.

I’ve taken this trip the past several years and have found it to be lots of fun. There are always two options – either just purchase the bus ticket and plan your own day, or  buy the bus trip and tickets to a dance performance. This year there are tickets to a matinee performance of American Ballet Theatre.

My husband and I are looking forward to the trip. In addition to the great dance performance, we’ll also get to view the NYC Marathon!

For more information, check out the Dance Alliance website at http://www.dancealliance.org/New%20web/calendar.htm#par  (“Looking Ahead” section)

Time to Dance

September 1, 2008

After a wonderful vacation in Italy that was filled with food, wine, and more food and wine, it’s time to get back to dancing. I’m really looking forward to teaching class on Thursday, 9/4.  I was hoping to take a class before then, but it looks like I’ll have to work out on my own. It’s not quite the same as taking a class. I never work out quite as hard as when there is an instructor watching you. Plus, it helps to have a dance studio with lots of room to move. Your movement can be much more dynamic and it takes more energy when you fly across the floor.  Thursday it is.
