Local Dance Events – Entry for January 25, 2008

January 25, 2008

There are local two dance festivals coming up over the next month or so. Both are held in Saratoga and are a great way to shake the winter blues.

The first is Dance Flurry which is scheduled for February 15 – 17, 2008. It’s a weekend full of dance classes, performances (dance and music), and music workshops. There are many different venues and they also offer a free shuttle bus. More information can be found at

The next festival is the annual Dance + 18 , sponsored by the Capital District Dance Alliance and also by Skidmore College. This one-day event is held at Skidmore College on March 1, 2008. There are 23 different dance and dance fitness classes offered. Kathleen Riley, the Balletone Master Trainer that I studied with is teaching three classes that day, including Balletone, Standing Pilates, and Yoga. I’m looking forward to taking these classes with her. Although, it’s tough to choose since there are so many other classes that I’d like to take. To view the schedule, go to and click on the Dance + Festival button.

We’re lucky to have these fun events!

Balletone Workout dvd – January 19, 2008

January 19, 2008

A couple of people have asked me to recommend one ot the Balletone dvds for working out at home, so I thought I’d share that info here. I like the Balletone – The Original Balletone Workout dvd. It has a cardio section and also includes floor exercises and stretches. It’s similar to what we do in class.  To puchase the dvd, go to…

I use it to work out in between class. It’s a good workout, but it’s definitely not as much fun as going to a class:)

Over the past three months I’ve been organizing the schedule for the Dance Alliance Dance+18 event. This is a one day dance festival to be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Skidmore College. The schedule is finally set! There are all kinds of dance classes – Ballet, Modern, Folk Dance, Jazz, and Dance Fitness classes.

There are two featured teachers – Peter Naumann for Ballet and Deanna Ford for Jazz and Precision Dance. Peter danced with New York City Ballet 1970-1996 and Deanna danced with the Rockettes. There is somehing for everyone! Look at the  draft schedule to see a sneak preview of what will be offered.

The new floors at Tina Marie’s Dance Academy are wonderful! The old floor was a little slippery, but the new tiles are just right. It should be fine for pointe shoes also.  It’s a joy to be able to give turn combinations. Before I had to modify the class because I was afraid that someone would slip.

When I first walked into the studio I was surprised to see such a dark color. It’s fine for class, but I’m not sure how it will look if we do another photo shoot there. We’ll have to see.

Happy New Year!

Balletone has lauched the new website at and with it an expanded program.  I’ve already re-tested and have been listed under Instructor Locator as a Master Balletone Ambassador (MBA)! I’m excited about the new programs and am thinking about completing the training in some of the other formats.

I’ve been teaching Balletone for almost two years and have found that it is a great supplement to dance training. In addition it’s a wonderful fitness class for those that have no dance training. It’s a well-rounded class that incorporates cardio, dance, Pilates, Yoga and stretching. I believe that all of my students have benefitted from the classes.  I have seen improvements in balance, flexibility, and endurance.

If you’ve never tried a Balletone class, you should try one of my classes. (If you’re a new student to Balletone, bring a printout of this blog entry to one of my classes and you’ll get a FREE class.) If you’d rather workout in your own home or are looking for an additional workout when there isn’t a class, there are a number of DVDs available.

Balletone has something for everyBODY!
